Commercial grid-tie solar energy systems present substantial profit opportunities for businesses. Grid-tie applications allow a solar array to be part of a continuous back-and-forth flow of electrons between the solar array and the utility grid through the meter. When the customer produces more energy than they use, they are credited for the excess that is sent to the grid. Or, if they use more than they produce, the amount produced is taken off their monthly utility bill.

Grid-Tie Benefits

Commercial grid-tie solar energy systems present substantial profit opportunities for businesses.  Offsetting daily electricity consumption through the use of a grid tie net metered system softens the overhead operating costs all businesses face.  Commercial properties that have solar applications are positively effecting their public image by showcasing their efforts of “going green.” And even better—it can help most companies meet and surpass carbon emission standards/requirements set by most provincial or state governments.

zero Demand Charges

Requires:  Solar Panels, Charge Controller, Inverter/Charger, Batteries

Commercial solar + storage systems help business owners combat demand charges. Solar power generation alone can help alleviate the concern of being burdened by demand charges, but not guarantee it. Adding a storage component to your solar system eliminates the concern altogether.  Planning out a system size to handle the electricity offset is simple.  Determine the peak loads above your baseline consumption and at what time they occur (demand charges).  Size the solar array and battery bank so that enough stored electricity can be utilized when your consumption rises above your baseline – eliminating demand charges.

Solar + Storage Benefits

Loss of power means lost revenue. It could even get worse in some cases and mean irreparable damage to your brand. For small businesses such as restaurants and bakeries, the freshness and safety of food is essential. For farms, keeping the barn houses warm for the animals is important.  For healthcare facilities, 100% power at all times of the day is essential to the well being of patients.

Using solar power with storage capabilities helps business owners curb the demand charges that would otherwise hurt their bottom line.  Use solar during the day to offset electricity usage, store the leftovers into a battery bank, then use the battery power when power spikes occur during operations.  This system allows business’ to strategically optimize their daily power usage and avoid the hefty prices of demand charges.

Sentinel Solar’s solar energy and battery storage solutions can help with any business needs. Being green with solar energy means your business is sustainable which attracts more green minded customers. We work with you to determine your needs and then we create a strategy to meet your needs taking into account provincial, and federal available incentives.

community solar

Virtual net metering is an arrangement that allows for the kilowatt hours (kWh) generated from a solar photovoltaic system in one location, to be credited towards kWh consumption at a different location.

Virtual Net-Metering Benefits

Virtual (or remote) net metering is one way that everyone can participate in sun-based energy.  Customers don’t directly use the energy for self consumption, but rather receive credits toward the electricity they consume from the local distribution company (LDC), relative to their share of the solar farms production.

The LDC benefits from this arrangement by allowing their consumers to go green, while keeping them as paying electricity customers.  Business and homeowners benefit from this arrangement by spending less on their monthly electricity bills, and having the satisfaction that they are participating in a “green” initiative.  Again, more and more consumers can actively participate in this arrangement.  Renters who can’t install solar, Homeowners with unsuitable roofs for the technology, and businesses connected to a capacity constrained grid can all gain from a community solar system.

Virtual net metering for LDC’s is cost effective, offers clean energy to the grid and it’s consumers, and allows the ability to site an optimum location for maximum power generation. Consumers reap the rewards of affordable solar power, and the long term benefits of price protection.
